Durea 500 mg Capsule is used in the treatment of sickle cell anemia.

Common
Side Effects of Durea are Low blood platelets, Vomiting, Nausea, Loss of appetite, Increased bleeding tendency, Diarrhoea, Stomach upset.
How to use Durea Capsule
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Durea 500 mg Capsule may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
How Durea Capsule works
In cancer, Durea 500 mg Capsule works by blocking an enzyme (ribonucleotide reductase) which is required for synthesis of DNA. This prevents the cancer cells from growing and multiplying. In sickle cell disease, it works by increasing fetal haemoglobin (HbF) levels in red blood cells (RBCs). This helps the RBCs assume a normal shape, improves blood flow and protects against complications such as painful sickle cell episodes.

Pregnancy
WEIGH RISKS VS BENEFITS
Durea 500 mg Capsule is unsafe to use during pregnancy. There is positive evidence of human fetal risk, but the benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk, for example in life-threatening situations. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
CAUTION
Durea 500 mg Capsule is probably unsafe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Durea 500 mg Capsule may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney
CAUTION
Durea 500 mg Capsule should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Durea 500 mg Capsule may be needed. Please consult your doctor. Regular monitoring of kidney function test and some blood tests may be advised while you are taking this medicine.
Liver
CAUTION
Durea 500 mg Capsule should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Durea 500 mg Capsule may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
